Principal's Message

The 2018-2019 school year will be my fourth here at Downsville. I truly enjoy the wonderful children that we have in this community. The last 3 years at Downsville have seen a lot of changes and growth. Union Parish School Board invested $4.8 million dollars in renovating all of the classrooms in the main buildings so that our children will have up to date facilities in which to learn. Additionally, the DCCS Board of Directors invested approximately $700,000 upgrading various areas of the campus. These improvements include air conditioning in the gym, updating the bathrooms and locker rooms in the gym, expanding the concession stand area, new playground equipment, and adding a new coach's office. We also tore down all of the unsightly walkway covers and replaced them with new metal covers. Additionally, we will be celebrating the opening of our new weight room for athletics soon.

Academically, Downsville has seen tremendous growth since the DCCS Board has taken the reins of the school in November 2015. Downsville has obtained a "B" rating 2 of the past 3 years and also has been labeled a Top Gains school each of those years. DCCS has invested approximately $300,000 in new curriculum and new technology in order to update the quality of the material our students are learning. This has resulted in our school having a computer or tablet for every 1.5 children. At the high school level, Downsville has increased its dual enrollment opportunities for high school students from just 3 classes in 2015, to enough for the senior class of 2020 to be college sophomores upon graduation. Additional post-secondary collaborations with Delta Community College allow the students at Downsville to obtain industry based certifications in C4M, Process Technology, Welding, and Electrician. Because of this successful relationship, Downsville has been an active participant in the process to bring a Delta Campus back to Farmerville.

Downsville has been improving at a blinding pace for the past three years. I do not anticipate that to change anytime in the near future. Our mission is to graduate students who are ready to go to college, or work, and for them to be successful in which ever direction they choose. There is little I like better as a principal than to talk to the graduates of the past three years when they return to visit, and have them tell me that they are being successful where ever they may be.

GO DEMONS!!
